How taxes work on a long stay
Your total price includes the applicable taxes, and we show the exact amount for your dates before you pay. Here is what we can confirm from the official source. The Pinellas County Tax Collector says the county’s tourist development tax applies to renters staying six months or less, and that renters with a signed written lease for more than six months are exempt. That means a 30 night stay is inside the six month window, so a month long stay is not automatically tax free. Do not assume a 30 night stay changes your tax treatment. The Tax Collector also notes that people who are exempt from Florida sales tax are exempt from the county tax, under special conditions.
We are not tax advisors, and we did not find a Florida Department of Revenue page we could open to confirm the state side of this. If you think you qualify for an exemption, contact the Pinellas County Tax Collector or your own advisor before booking.
What to look for in a monthly rental
- A heated pool for winter. Casa Blue Horizon, Goodtimes Waterfront, On the Creek, Indian Shores Family Oasis and Tortuga Hideaway have heating included. Heat pumps warm the water about 10 to 20 degrees above the air temperature, so a cold snap can limit it. Read how our heated pools work.
- Work friendly space. Casa Blue Horizon, Goodtimes, Indian Shores, On the Creek, The Salty Parrot and Tortuga Hideaway list a laptop friendly workspace. Hibiscus House does not list one in the listing data, though a guest mentioned a comfy bed and desk for working.
- Room for a routine. Every home lists a full kitchen, a washer and a dryer, and driveway parking or free parking on premises.
- A location that fits your day. A beach walker, a boater and someone who wants St. Pete restaurants will each pick a different home. See where to stay.

A realistic month, week by week
This routine uses what our homes list: full kitchens, a washer and dryer, a workspace at most homes, and grills. It is not a schedule you must follow.
- Week 1, settle in. Groceries first. The Salty Parrot is about 3 minutes from Publix and Walmart, and guests at Goodtimes have mentioned Publix and a pharmacy about 5 minutes away. Ask us if you want groceries stocked before you arrive; guests have done this. Learn your trash days: valet trash runs on set days at each home.
- Week 2, work rhythm. Set up at the workspace, test the Wi-Fi during your work hours, and tell us early if your job needs more. Laundry fits into the mornings, since each home lists a washer and dryer, and Tortuga also lists a laundry starter kit and an iron.
- Week 3, your outings. A weekly beach day, a Saturday at a park, one day trip. Our free things to do and Largo guide help. The county’s Florida Botanical Gardens in Largo is free every day, and the Pinellas Trail runs 47 miles from St. Petersburg to Tarpon Springs.
- Week 4, visitors and wrap up. Friends often visit in the last week. Check the guest limit, the parking spaces and the quiet hours (9 PM to 9 AM) before you invite people. Checkout has no long chore list.
Month long packing and planning checklist
- Work gear, a headset and any backup internet you rely on.
- Layers for winter evenings: nights can be cool even when days are mild.
- Your own favorite coffee, spices or pantry items, since you will use them for weeks.
- A beach bag, and check the listing for beach chairs and umbrellas, which several homes provide.
- Medications and prescriptions for the whole stay, and a note of the nearest pharmacy.
Winter planning
The Visit St. Pete/Clearwater weather FAQ describes winter highs in the low 70s and nights in the mid 50s, with January to May as high season. Book several months ahead, especially around spring training in February and March and spring break in March. The Phillies’ 2027 spring games start February 20 in Clearwater, per MLB’s schedule announcement.
