If you are searching for a St. Pete Beach vacation rental with a private pool, you already know the appeal: a place to swim on your own schedule, a rain plan, and no fighting for space at a crowded communal pool. What most listings will not tell you is how different one “private pool” home can be from the next. We are a local Clearwater company that has hosted families at private pool homes around Pinellas County for years, so this is the checklist we would use ourselves, with the facts we could verify and an honest note about where our own homes sit.

Why a private pool matters on this coast
It turns a rainy afternoon into a pool afternoon
Summer in Tampa Bay often means sunny mornings and a passing storm in the afternoon. If your whole plan is the public beach, that storm ends your day. With your own pool, you wait out the weather and swim again when it clears, without loading the car or driving back.
It saves the daily beach logistics
Coolers, umbrellas, toys and parking add up over a week. Parking at the Gulf beaches is often paid, on the street and in public lots, and the closest spaces can fill up on weekends and holidays, so check the posted rules for the beach you choose. A pool at the house means the little kids can swim before breakfast, and you can choose the beach for the day you actually want it.
It stretches the swimming season
Typical average Gulf temperatures near Clearwater Beach are in the mid 60s Fahrenheit in January and February, around 80 by May, and in the mid 80s from June through September. Those are averages from third party tracking, and a cold front can push the water lower, so treat them as a guide. A heated pool is what makes a December or February swim realistic.
Heated or not: what changes by season
| Season | Unheated pool | Heated pool |
|---|---|---|
| June to September | Comfortable on its own | Heat rarely needed |
| October, November, March to May | Cool mornings and after cold fronts | Noticeably nicer |
| December to February | Often too cold for most people to enjoy for long | The reason to book |
Season notes are our general guidance, not a guarantee for a specific date.
Here is the honest part. Pool heat helps, but it has limits. Heat pumps raise the water temperature above the outside air, and a hard cold snap can keep any pool cooler than you would like. During a hard January cold spell a heated pool may not reach its target temperature. That is why we say it plainly on our listings, and why you should always ask a manager two questions: is heat included in the price, and what should I expect on a cold week? At our homes with a heated pool, the heat is included in your rate. Some managers charge for it as an add-on, so check the total before you book.
Screened or open? A Florida detail worth understanding
Many Florida pools sit inside a screened enclosure, often called a lanai or pool cage. It keeps out mosquitoes and no-see-ums and catches leaves, while letting in sun and breeze. Open-air pools give you a clear view of the sky and more room for a big group, at the cost of more bugs at dusk. Neither is better, so look at the photos and ask if it matters to you.
Six things to confirm before booking St. Pete Beach vacation rentals with a private pool
- Is the pool private to your booking? A community or condo pool is not the same thing. Ask: “Does anyone else use this pool during our stay?”
- Is it heated, and is heat included? Ask for the answer in writing, and for the season the heater is available.
- How big and how deep is it? Wide-angle photos flatter small pools. Ask for dimensions and the depth range, especially for strong swimmers and for toddlers.
- Screened or open? See above.
- What safety features are in place? See the checklist below.
- How far is the beach in real life? Ask for the drive or walk time, and where guests actually park.
Pool safety: what Florida requires and what to ask
If you are traveling with children, ask about safety before you ask about the grill. Chapter 515 of the Florida Statutes, the Residential Swimming Pool Safety Act, says a residential pool must have at least one of five safety features:
- A barrier enclosure that isolates the pool from the house.
- An approved safety pool cover.
- Exit alarms on doors and windows that open to the pool.
- Self-closing, self-latching doors with a high release.
- A certified pool alarm.
The statute is written around new residential pools, and it does not speak to rentals as a category, so do not assume an older pool has any particular feature. Ask which of these the home has, whether there is a fence and a self-latching gate around the pool itself, whether the pool has a shallow area, and whether it has an alarm. Then supervise children at all times, whatever barriers exist. Safety features differ from home to home, and we list them in each home’s safety section. Read that section for the exact home, not this article.
St. Pete Beach, St. Petersburg and the Gulf Beaches are not the same place
The names get mixed up in listings. St. Pete Beach is a barrier island town directly on the Gulf. St. Petersburg is the much larger mainland city, with its own downtown and its waterfront on Tampa Bay. North of St. Pete Beach the Gulf Beaches include Treasure Island and Madeira Beach, and to the south sits Pass-a-Grille at the end of the island. A “St. Pete” listing can be a few minutes from the sand or a real drive from it, and true beachfront lots are mostly condos and resorts, so private pool houses tend to sit a few blocks back or on the mainland.

If your priority is a short trip to the sand, start with our Indian Rocks Beach rental, which is the one home you can walk from. If you want a bigger house with a heated pool and are happy to drive to the beach, look at our Largo homes. Why book direct with a local manager
A local manager can tell you, before you pay, whether the pool is heated, how deep it is and what the safety setup looks like, and can text you back the same day. When you book with us directly, there is no service fee and the total price, taxes included, is shown before you pay. Our team is local, and our number, +1 727-295-2319, reaches a real person.
Quick answers
Yes, several managers list them, but a private pool home on the sand is rare because beachfront lots are mostly condos and resorts. Most private pool homes sit a few blocks back or on the mainland side, so confirm the real distance to the beach before you book.
No. Our homes are in Indian Rocks Beach, Largo, Seminole, Pinellas Park and northwest St. Petersburg. The closest to St. Pete Beach by drive is The Salty Parrot in northwest St. Petersburg, which is about 6 minutes from Madeira Beach. St. Pete Beach is farther south along the coast, so check the map for your dates.
It depends on the home. At our homes with a heated pool, heating is included in the rate. Heat pumps warm the water but cannot overcome a hard cold snap, so ask before a winter trip. Some homes, such as Hibiscus House, have an unheated pool that is best from spring through fall.
Chapter 515 of the Florida Statutes says a new residential pool must have at least one of five options: a barrier enclosure, an approved safety cover, exit alarms on doors and windows to the pool, self-closing and self-latching doors, or a certified pool alarm. Older pools may not be covered, so always ask the manager what is in place and supervise children at all times.
Typical average Gulf temperatures near Clearwater Beach run in the mid 60s Fahrenheit in January and February, warm to about 80 by May and reach the mid 80s in summer. That is why a heated private pool extends the swimming season.
